What personal data do we collect, and why do we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site or sign our guest book, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture from Gravatar may be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site or sign our guest book, you may be prompted to opt in to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you edit or publish an article, sign our contact form, leave a comment, or sign our guest book, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited.

Embedded content from other websites

The Instagram section in the footer of our site is the only area that has embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

We DO NOT share your data or information with anyone.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to provide us with our site statistics and basic analytical tools for search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing purposes. We do not have any of your private or personal information from the website analytics.

How long do we retain your data?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata may be retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Reservations

We DO NOT take any online reservations on this site.

All reservations are done through third-party websites.  To book one of our cottages online, we will only redirect you to VRBO, although you can find our rentals on many different reputable online websites.  There you are able to review our availability and make a reservation and payment.  Here you can see VRBO’s Terms & Conditions and their Privacy Policy.

Your payment information

If you book online, all payment information is retained by the third-party reservation website, e.g., VRBO, Airbnb, etc.  You should see and review the terms and conditions and privacy policies on any website that you visit and create an account with.

The only time we will have your payment information is if you make your reservation with us over the phone. If that is the case, we only use your payment information for payment purposes and do not store that information anywhere in our offices.
